Steel Droppers and Standards

Droppers

Droppers are generally used in constructing barbed wire fences and game fences.

Droppers have ridges in order to keep lines of barbed wire separated.

Droppers are not designed to go into the ground.

Steel Droppers are available in lengths of 1.2m, 1.4m, 1.8m and 2.4m.

Standards

There are different kinds of metal standards available:

Y Standards are the most widely used type of metal standard.

K Standards are similar in form to Y standards, but are much lighter and cheaper.

H standards (sometimes referred to as "I" standards) are much heavier and more expensive.

Steel Standards are available in lengths of 1.8m, 2.4m and 3.0m.

Steel Standards and Droppers are coated with black bitumen.  Contractors sometimes paint standards with bitumous aluminium paint which provides a light rust protection and silver finish.  Steel Standards can be galvanised provided they are sandblasted and sent for galvanising.  This is not a cost effective process.

Alternatives to Steel Standards and Droppers are Wooden Poles, or Round Steel Posts.
